When NFL fans think of the Seattle Seahawks, franchise quarterback Russel Wilson or their muscular wide receiver DK Metcalf were the first ones to come to mind. Who would've thought that the most discussed Seahawk or rather former Seahawk right now is 6-foot-7, 318-pound offensive tackle Chad Wheeler?

Sadly, he is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Wheeler reportedly choked his girlfriend unconscious.

Allegedly, as reported by Pro Football Talk, the league and Seattle were hoping to deal with the matter discreetly. However, sources said that players expect the NFL to release a strong statement condemning Wheeler's actions and to impose stronger discipline on the lineman.

At first, the Seahawks were planning to let the issue slide by letting his expiring contract just finish and move on from Wheeler. With the increase in public uproar, Seattle was made to waive their rights to him. No teams have claimed the problematic tackle off waivers and most likely it will stay that way for good.

Some players want the NFL to deal out fair and just punishment quickly as they have done in the past. Race is an added matter here, as Wheeler is white. Although the league probably does not decide on these matters that way, those same players would want to see that the league does not have a double standard.

Any actions the league will undertake regarding Chad Wheeler might just bring unwanted attention. A possible course of action is to issue a suspension. For the league, the timing of this issue could not be much worse with the Super Bowl happening next week.
