Toronto Maple Leafs superstar center Auston Matthews is having another outstanding season. His play has been so great that he received recognition from one of the other game's elite players. Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos believes he is the future of goal-scoring in the NHL, and stated as much to Sportsnet, noted by NHL.com.

“I just look at the guys around the league, and he's a guy that kind of stands out in terms of consistently scoring goals… If there's a guy, he's at the top of the list for 50, 60 every year, you'd think… His ability to just get the shots that he does. And his wrist shot is, I think, second to none. His release is amazing,” Stamkos said. “You see a lot of goals that he scores on that quick release. I kind of look back at my 50-goal and 60-goal seasons, and some of those wrist shots … to have that release where goalies think that they're ready for it, and they're not, is pretty special. And he has that.”

Stamkos, the two-time Stanley Cup champion, probably knows what he is talking about. He is the last player to score 60 or more goals in a season back in 2011-2012.

Matthews has 33 goals this season, second behind only Leon Draisaitl who has 35. However, Matthews has only played in 46 games this season. That's a pace for 56 in a year. It is unlikely he his the 60-goal mark this year, but he is only 24 years old. The future is very bright for Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
