The Chicago Blackhawks are on the road Monday night to take on the Colorado Avalanche. Here we will continue our NHL odds series with a Blackhawks-Avalanche prediction and pick while also letting you know how to watch the game.

The Blackhawks have already been eliminated from the playoffs with a record of 24-39-6 for just 54 points through 69 games. This will be their third game of a five-game road trip. On the road, the Blackhawks have a record of just 10-21-3 and score just 2.2 goals per game. They have won just three of their last 10 games, but they are not too mad about that. They are a team hoping to land the No. 1 pick, and they proved it by trading away a lot of their talent at the deadline.

The Avalanche are sitting in third place in the Central Division, five points ahead of the Winnipeg Jets. They are also just three points from the division-leading Dallas Stars. A win Monday night would make this division race even tighter than it already is. The Avalanche want as much momentum going into the playoffs as possible, and they are currently riding an NHL-best five-game win streak.

The season series between these two teams is split 1-1, with each team winning their respective home game. The Avalanche won in Colorado 5-2, while the Blackhawks won in Chicago 3-2.

Why The Blackhawks Could Cover The Spread

The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL, but they can do some good. The expected goaltender for this game is Alex Stalock. He has a record of 9-9-1 and a save percentage of .919. In his nine wins, two of them have been shutouts. He has been playing pretty well for the Hawks when given his opportunity. Chicago will need him to have a good game if it want to keep this close.

As mentioned previously, the Blackhawks do not score well. They are last in the league with 2.51 goals per game. They also give up 3.51 goals per game, putting them eighth-worst in the category. As for most teams in the NHL, giving up four goals in a game is a recipe for disaster. For Chicago, it is almost an automatic loss. When giving up four or more goals, the Blackhawks have a record of 1-28-2. They are currently on a 29-game losing streak when opponents reach four goals.

Chicago will need its goaltender to step up along with the defense. Giving up at most three goals will give them the best chance to succeed. The Avalanche are very good, but when they score at most three goals, they have a record of 17-19-5.

Why The Avalanche Could Cover The Spread

Colorado obviously needs to score to win, and scoring four goals will give them the highest chances of winning. The Avalanche shoot the puck 33.13 times and score 3.25 goals per game. Led by Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado will have plenty of chances to put the Blackhawks away. Rantanen is third in the NHL in goals scored with 46, while MacKinnon is seventh in assists with 58. Both players are top-15 in points.

We can not forget about the goaltender in this game. Alexander Georgiev is one of the best in the league. Georgiev gives up just 2.58 goals a game, placing him top-15 in the NHL. He also has a save percentage of .918 and has been in net for four shutouts. Even if he gives up one or two goals, the Avalanche will have a really good shot at pulling out the win.

Final Blackhawks-Avalanche Prediction & Pick

Colorado is clearly the better team in this game. They are playing their best hockey at this point in the season, and that will not change against the Blackhawks. The Avalanche should take control on both the offensive and defensive side of the ice. Take the Avalanche to cover this one.

Final Blackhawks-Avalanche Prediction & Pick: Avalance -1.5 (-170) Under 6.5 (-134)
