The Vancouver Canucks will head down south to Texas to take on the Dallas Stars in tonight's matchup. This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season where the Canucks won the first matchup 6-3. The Canucks are just four points behind the Stars for that last wild card spot in playoffs. This should be a fantastic game to determine who catches up, or who pulls ahead. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Canucks-Stars prediction and pick.

Why The Canucks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Vancouver Canucks come into this contest after a 3-2 overtime loss on Thursday to the St. Louis Blues. The Canucks have had some low-scoring games lately, averaging just 1.8 goals scored over their last five games. Most of the low-scoring games are because of the outstanding play by star goaltender Thatcher Demko lately. On the season, Demko is sporting a .916 save percentage and allowing just 2.69 goals against per game. He should be getting another starting nod tonight as the Canucks will need him if they want any chance of taking home a win tonight.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars are heading into this game on a three-game winning streak, including a win over the Hurricanes in a shootout on Thursday. Of course, they'd love to keep their win streak going, especially when their goaltender Jake Oettinger is playing so well lately. On the season, Oettinger is now repping a .917 save percentage and allowing 2.49 goals against per game. The Canucks have been struggling lately, but that doesn't mean Oettinger can't be on his A-game tonight. There have also been six or more total goals in seven of the last 10 games for the Stars. They'll look to extend their wild card point lead tonight against an inconsistent, but still dangerous, Canucks team.

Final Canucks-Stars Prediction & Pick

Both teams aren't exactly known for scoring, per se, but if they were to do it, tonight is the night to do it. These teams are both desperate for points as we approach the end of the regular season, and I think they come out and prove it tonight. Yes, both sides have good defenses and goaltenders, but they're not exactly known for carrying their team. Both sides are going to need offensive help, and I think they're going to get it. Give me the over in this matchup, both teams are going to be desperate for goals.

Final Canucks-Stars Prediction and Pick: Over 6 (-105)
