The Philadelphia Flyers will pack their bags and head out west to take on the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado on Friday evening. It is time to take a look at our NHL odds series, where our Flyers-Avalanche prediction and pick will be revealed.

Let's just call it like it is: The Flyers have been a bad hockey team during the 2021-2022 season, and are squaring off with one of and if not the best squad in the NHL on the road against the Colorado Avalanche. If there's any good news to come from this, it's that Philadelphia is entering Friday night fresh off a hard-earned win on the road versus the St. Louis Blues 5-2. The Flyers are 21-32-11 on the year.

The Avalanche surprisingly were losers of their last game vs Vancouver, as it marked Colorado's first home regulation loss since February 15th in a 4-1 loss against the Stars. This is a rarity to say the least, as there was a point where the Avs reeled off 18 consecutive home wins earlier in the year. Colorado is 25-4-3 at home and is 45-14-5 overall.

Why the Flyers Could Cover the Spread

If it ain't broke, then why fix it? It will be interesting to see Philadelphia's strategic approach heading into this Western-Eastern Conference clash, especially since the Flyers were so effective in their victorious triumph over the St. Louis Blues, a game where they overwhelmed goalie Jordan Binnington by sneaking five goals past him on only  27 shots. The Flyers no doubt need to find an offensive groove early against the Avs to keep pace with them in the goals department and to have a chance at the spread, especially when Colorado is so good at racking up the shots on net.

The one name to be on the lookout for in this matchup who isn't afraid to play with an aggressive nature is right-winger Cam Atkinson, who is the team leader in goals with 21 and total points with 48. The Flyers will need some lucky bounces to go their way and will need to play an almost perfect game to make this one interesting.

Why the Avalanche Could Cover the Spread

What's there not to love about the NHL point leaders? With 18 games left on the schedule for the Avalanche, Colorado has the chance to have their best regular season record since gas prices were roughly only $1.50 per gallon. Obviously, a lot has changed since then, as the Avs are turning back the clock to the Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, and Patrick Roy days where Colorado dominated their way to two Stanley Cup Championships from 1995-2001. This is a new era in the Mile High City, and the Avalanche would love to use the remaining regular season slate to perfect their game so that they can avoid another postseason let down in just a few, short months.

Leading the way for Colorado is the magnificent first and second lines that will leave an opposing team buckling at the knee with the amount of speed that must be accounted for. Center Nazeem Kadri may be the total points leader with 76 points, but this is still Nathan MacKinnon's team, as his next-level tempo and pace are rivaled by no one in the National Hockey League.

Final Flyers-Avalanche Prediction & Pick

The spread differential at 2.5 is mind boggling to some, as the Flyers will have a big cushion to cover that mark. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, this one is not going to be close. Prior to the Flyers' road win at the Blues, they had lost 13 in a row away from their home fans, and Colorado rarely plays poorly in back-to-back games. Bottom line is that the Flyers will be incapable in keeping the Avalanche off the attack, and will eventually crater to Colorado's offensive prowess. Take Colorado and lay the goals in a big way on Friday evening.

Final Flyers-Avalanche Pick: Avalanche -2.5 (+110)
