The Edmonton Oilers will play host to their Pacific Division rival, the Vegas Golden Knights. This is a big game for the Knights as they are currently fourth in the division with technically just one point outside of a playoff spot. The Oilers on the other hand are second in the division and are a comfortable five points ahead of the Knights. Can the Knights find a way to grab a playoff spot today? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Golden Knights-Oilers prediction and pick.

Why The Golden Knights Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Vegas Golden Knights have had some injury issues this season and because of that, they are on the outside looking in for the playoffs right now. However, team captain, Mark Stone, is finally back, along with star player, Max Pacioretty. They'll be leaned on pretty heavily throughout the rest of the regular season as they try to continue their 7-2-1 run in their last 10 games. Starting in net tonight for the Knights will likely be Robin Lehner who has been… inconsistent to say the least. He's been dealing with a lingering injury all season long but is posting a .907 save percentage while allowing 2.82 goals against per game. He'll look to be on his A-game tonight against an always aggressive Oilers offense.

Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Edmonton Oilers are easily one of the more talented teams in the league offensively. Well, it's really just the combination of superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Together, they combine for 215 points and make up the majority of Edmonton's success. The Oilers have no problem scoring goals as they score around 3.41 goals per game and have the third-best power play in the league. However, their biggest problem is their defensive abilities, especially in between the pipes. Their goaltending situation is an utter mess, to put it nicely. It's always a toss-up for who will get the starting nod for the Oilers, but regardless of whether it's Mike Smith or Mikko Koskinen, you can assume the worst. Both goalies have been inconsistent all year long and pray for a good offense to bail them out of potential losses.

Final Golden Knights-Oilers Prediction & Pick

These two teams run on high-powered offenses and are going up against questionable goaltending, on both sides of the ice. With that said, typically I would take the over in this spot, but seven total goals just seems ridiculously too high. I'm going to move the line down to 6.5 goals and take the over on that. Yes, it's worse odds, but I feel way more comfortable at 6.5 than I do with an even seven. On FanDuel, you can find this under the “Alternate Total Goals 1” option.

Final Golden Knights-Oilers Prediction and Pick: Alternate Over 6.5 (-136)
