The Detroit Red Wings will play host to the red-hot Carolina Hurricanes tonight for the second time this season, as the Hurricanes won the first matchup in November. Carolina heads into this game as the best team in the East with 78 points as they have gone 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and have now won five in a row. The Red Wings are on a two-game losing streak now as they continue to sit way outside of playoff contention with 52 points. Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Carolina Hurricanes have been so dominant in such a talented Eastern Conference where the playoffs are basically already set. With such elite talent, it allows the Canes to create offense and it shows. Carolina is ranked fifth in goals per game with 3.51 and is also deadly on the power play as they are also ranked fifth, scoring 25.2 percent of the time. The Canes are also fantastic defensively, as they rank first in the league in preventing goals, only giving up 2.37 goals per game. Their penalty kill is also the best in the league as they have a 90.2 percent success rate.

A lot of Carolina's success has come from their goaltending in Freddie Andersen, as he'll look to get another start between the pipes tonight. He's posting a save percentage of .930 so far and allowing 2.03 goals per game. The Hurricanes should have no problem marching into Detroit and stealing two more points off the board.

Why The Red Wings Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Detroit Red Wings front office has done a terrific job rebuilding their team in these recent years and it's clearly starting to show after picking up two Calder Trophy favorites in Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond. They still seem to have another year before they are true contenders, but the future is very bright. With that said, Detroit struggles on offense as they only score 2.81 goals per game, including one of the worst power plays in the league, scoring only 16.7 percent of the time. The Wings are also 25th in the league in allowing goals per game with 3.46, and only succeeding on the penalty kill at 76.6 percent.

Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic will most likely be getting another start tonight against his old team as he is posting a .903 save percentage and allowing 3.14 goals against on the season. The Wings will have their work cut out for them tonight as they look to maybe catch a heater and take down one of the hottest teams in the league.

Final Hurricanes-Red Wings Prediction & Pick

This game has, what I like to call, ugly potential. Things could get out of hand very fast, especially catching these teams heading in opposite directions right now. Carolina has the advantage in every asset of this game, so let's not overthink this and give me the Hurricanes to cover the puck line while it's still in plus money.

Final Hurricanes-Red Wings Prediction and Pick: Hurricanes -1.5 (+110)
