Earlier this offseason, Nick Young signed with the Golden State Warriors on a one-year, $5.2 million deal, shutting the door on a return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

However, Young recently told Mark Medina of the LA Daily News that he could one day return to Los Angeles before he retires.

“I love LA. I might be back and retire here one day,” said Young, who is entering his 11th NBA season. “I’ll come back with Kobe, MJ (Michael Jordan) and LeBron (James).”

There is a bit of sarcasm in the 32-year-old's response, but the possibility could present itself down the line. The Lakers are heading into another direction with their youth movement centered around their core group. On top of that, things could ramp up in a major way next summer if they are able to land a superstar or two in free agency.

If so, the Lakers could finally be relevant again in the league after this current lull period over the last few seasons. It may also open up an opportunity for Young to once again don a purple and gold uniform one more time before he retires.

Los Angeles holds a special place in his heart beyond it being his hometown, as he was able to revive his career with the franchise. This has helped him earn the opportunity to be a contributor on the defending champion Golden State Warriors as a scoring option off the bench.

Ultimately, this is all dependent on how things line up for the Lakers over the next couple of seasons.
