Nick Young came very close to ending his NBA career after he picked up a lit firework that exploded in his hand and near his face this past Monday.

He was lucky that no serious damage occurred, particularly after New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul suffered serious damage last Fourth of in a similar incident with fireworks.

According to Mark Medina of Inside Socal, the Lakers will not be enforcing any disciplinary action.

“You would hope that things like that don’t happen,” Lakers coach Luke Walton said after summer league practice on Tuesday at the team’s practice facility in El Segundo. “Professional athletes kind of need their hands. But I’m glad he’s okay.”

Due to a frustrating couple of years, the Lakers are rumored to be considering buying out the remaining two years of Young’s $11 million contract if they are unable to find a suitor to trade him to. Young hasn’t exactly been been lighting up the court, only managing to average 7.3 points on 33.9 percent shooting from the field.
