Phoenix Suns center Alex Len was one of the only 2013 first round draft picks that did not sign a new contract extension before the league-imposed October 31 deadline.

What this means is Len will become a restricted free agent next summer, much earlier than expected, but the Suns still have the last say on if he stays or leaves. If any team in the league signs Len to an offer sheet, the Suns will have seven days to match, or let him go for nothing.

In the event that the Suns want to keep Len, they can negotiate a new five-year deal with him, if they feel he's worth it.

The 23-year-old center has started 90 games over the past two seasons, but has been inconsistent in his play, partially due to ankle injuries.

Last season, Len averaged 9.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in 23.3 minutes of action.

Alex Len has work ahead of him if he plans on seeing a lucrative contract this summer, when the NBA's salary cap will shoot up to $103 million and allow teams to spend even more to improve.
