The tennis world, sports world and world in general has been following the Novak Djokovic story. Initially, the world's number one ranked player was able to gain a medical exemption for the Australian Open's COVID-19 vaccination requirements. That caused a whirlwind of speculation and criticism of the tournament.

Djokovic has not stated whether or not he is vaccinated, but only to the belief in freedom of personal choice. That led many to believe he is not vaccinated.

Amid the pressure and scrutiny, Australia in a sudden change of events had cancelled his visa on Wednesday. He was detained at the airport in an immigration detention in Australia. Apparently, he is not the only one.

Czech tennis player Renata Voracova has reportedly been detained at the same immigration detention center. That prompted the Czech foreign ministry to release a statement, as detailed by ESPN.

“We can confirm that Czech tennis player Renata Voracova is in the same detention as Djokovic, together with several other players… We submitted through our embassy in Canberra a protest note and are asking for an explanation of the situation. However, Renata Voracova decided to drop out of the tournament due to limited possibilities for training and to leave Australia.”

Reportedly two other people connected to the Australian Open were initially held after having their visas cancelled as well. One of them decided to leave the country, while the other is also in the detention center.

Djokovic will remain in the detention center through the weekend as his case has been adjourned until Monday morning.
