Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. waxed hot as soon as the gates opened in Game 6 against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The versatile big man scored 22 points in just nine minutes of play in the first quarter, draining six 3-pointers to tie an NBA postseason record in the process.

Stephen Curry much?

Porter is coming off a huge performance in Game 5 where he tallied 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two steals in an exhausting 48 minutes of play. The Nuggets won the contest in double overtime.

His recent surge has been a blessing for the Nuggets in this series. Prior to Game 5, Porter has been relatively quiet, even hitting rock bottom in Game 4 as he scored a measly three points on 33% field goal shooting. Head coach Michael Malone has seemingly lit a fire underneath the talented youngster which does not bode well for the Blazers.

Porter Jr. enjoyed a breakout regular season for the Nuggets, pickup up the cudgels on offense after point guard Jamal Murray went down with a season-ending injury. While Nikola Jokic is, by far, the Nuggets' best player, Porter Jr. brings unique value to the team.

His length and skillset make for a dreaded combination that saw him receive high projections before entering the league. However, injuries did not do him any favor as the former Missouri standout saw his name fall in the deep 2018 draft.

So far, the Nuggets' bet on MPJ is paying huge dividends as he appears to have met the lofty expectations placed upon him early on.
