The Denver Nuggets are hosting the San Antonio Spurs as the NBA returns to action from the All-Star break. At halftime of tonight’s game at the Pepsi Center, the Nuggets will be continuing their 50-year anniversary celebration honoring the legends who played for the team by remembering one of the game's all-time greats.

After celebrating key players from the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s earlier in the season, Denver proudly presents the 2000’s era. Foremost among tonight’s guests will be Hall-of-Fame guard Allen Iverson who played for the Nuggets from the 2006-07 season to 2008-09.

Iverson will be honored together with Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin, and Carmelo Anthony, who will not be in attendance as he is playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight as well.

One of the greatest players ever for the Philadelphia 76ers, Iverson, along with Ivan McFarlin, was traded to the Nuggets for Andre Miller, Joe Smith, and two 2007 first-round picks. He and Anthony teamed-up to be the cornerstones of the Nuggets during the late 2000s.

At the time of the trade, Iverson was expected to be the superstar player that Anthony needed around him for the Nuggets to go deep in the playoffs and compete for a championship.

As noted by Zach Mikash of SBNation’s DenverStiffs.com, “[Iverson] had the best shooting percentages of his career while wearing a Nuggets uniform and also recorded some of the higher assist totals of his career too.”

During his first season in Denver, Allen Iverson averaged 24.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.8 steals in 50 games.

The following year, Iverson played in 82 games, and he upped his scoring average to 26.4 points a game.

Though brief, Iverson’s stay with the Nuggets gave Denver one of its most memorable stretches in franchise history, as they reached the playoffs in each season “The Answer” played there.

In 14 seasons in the NBA, Iverson managed to average 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.2 steals in 914 games played, starting in 901 of them.
