The Denver Nuggets had recently agreed to trade Bol Bol to the Detroit Pistons for Rodney McGruder and a 2022 second-round pick. The teams even announced the trade. However, that deal is now off after Bol failed his physical, according to Mike Singer of The Denver Post. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed the report.

It's unclear why exactly Bol didn't pass his physical with the Pistons. The 7-foot-2 big man had foot trouble at Oregon but hasn't had issues since joining the Nuggets as a second-round pick in 2019. Once viewed as a potential top-10 pick before his lone season in college, that injury concern likely played a role in his drop in the draft.

While Bol hasn't had injury issues in the NBA, he hasn't been able to find his niche on a talented Nuggets team. The 22-year-old has only appeared in 53 games since entering the league, averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in 6.2 minutes per game. This season in 14 games, Bol is averaging 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.8 minutes per contest, despite Denver dealing with a number of health issues.

This news could explain why DeMarcus Cousins hasn't officially signed his 10-day deal with Denver yet.

As for the Pistons, they were ready to take a gamble on Bol as they go through a rebuild, but they clearly didn't like what they saw in his physical. Voiding this trade isn't a big loss for them.

McGruder joined Detroit last season and has appeared in 33 games for the franchise over the last two seasons. In 2021-22, he's averaging 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.5 minutes per game.
