The Denver Nuggets are already not doing too well on the injury report list. They've been missing the services of star guard Jamal Murray due to an ACL tear, and players have gone in and out of the rotation. This latest injury update on Nikola Jokic after missing their loss to the Bulls, though, can prove to be the dagger to this team.

The Nuggets Twitter account reported prior to their game against the Phoenix Suns that reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic would be out with a right wrist sprain injury. That's a worrying sign for a team that is looking to contend seriously this season.

Jokic has been masterful this season for the Nuggets, posting double-double averages of 26.4 points, 6.4 assists, and 13.6 rebounds on highly efficient shooting. The team has badly needed all of that production from him, as the Nuggets often floundered when Jokic wasn't on the court. The absence of Murray already lost them a key playmaker and scorer. With Jokic set to miss significant time, that problem will only be exacerbated.

Wrist sprains have varying degrees of recovery time, ranging from two to ten weeks depending on the severity of the sprain. With the Nuggets sitting at 6th place in a highly competitive Western Conference, they'll have to hope that their favorite Serbian superstar recovers faster and gets back on the court as soon as possible. Michael Porter Jr. and co will have to find a way to replicate Jokic's performance by committee.

Stay tuned for more updates on Jokic's injury, timetable, and his potential replacement.
