The Denver Nuggets have signed point guard Donald Sloan to a training camp deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Sixth man and former All-Star Isaiah Thomas has continued to rehab his troublesome hip and Sloan could play a role while that takes place, backing up starter Jamal Murray for the extent of Thomas' absence.

Denver has 15 guaranteed contracts as it is, which would virtually make this an open competition between the veteran Sloan and young Monte Morris, who only has three games of NBA experience to his name.

The Nuggets will need a quality backup if they hope to keep the ship afloat until Thomas gets back, especially considering a merciless Western Conference that has kept them out of the playoffs for the past five seasons.

Sloan has played for five franchises in his five years in the league but wasn't with any NBA roster this past season, which will bring some questions into training camp. The Texas A&M product has averages of 5.5 points and 3.0 assists per game during his stint as an NBA journeyman.

The Nuggets could opt to waive Morris and keep Sloan if he proves superior in training camp, as their two two-way spots have already been filled.
