The Denver Nuggets hired three-time WNBA champion Sue Bird to a front-office position Saturday, and backup point guard Isaiah Thomas is thrilled about the move.

According to Katy Winge of Altitude TV, Isaiah Thomas says Sue Bird is a “basketball legend.” The lefty scoring guard also revealed he spoke with Bird before deciding to undergo arthroscopic hip surgery in March.

“We've known each other for the last few years,” the Nuggets guard said. “We communicate throughout the season, both of our seasons. She's actually had a few hip surgeries as well, so that was one person that I communicated with before I decided to get hip surgery, so she's somebody that I really trust in her word on the court and off the court, and I'm glad she's here.”

Isaiah Thomas underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right hip on March 28. There is still no timetable for his return to the court.

Thomas signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Nuggets in July. With the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers last season, Thomas averaged 15.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists, shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 29.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Isaiah Thomas is being reunited with Michael Malone in Denver. Malone coached Thomas with the Sacramento Kings. The two have a very strong relationship and Thomas believes Malone will use him correctly with the Nuggets and get the best out of him on the floor.
