It has been over two years since that fateful day in late January when Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant and seven others died in a tragic helicopter crash in California. Even so, the Los Angeles Lakers legend remains on the mind of many, including Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray.

The Nuggets guard tweeted overnight this simple message:

Kobe meant so much to a lot of people, including many in this young generation of NBA stars. They grew up watching Kobe dominate with the Lakers and looked to him for mentorship and inspiration. Murray was one of those players, even working with Bryant at the Mamba Academy.

It has been a tough last year or so for Murray, who tore his ACL in April 2021. The Nuggets star missed last season's playoffs and then this entire season. There were rumblings that he would be back at some point, but that never happened as Denver got eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the first round.

Murray's season-long absence helped Nikola Jokic win a second consecutive MVP, but his absence loomed large in that Warriors season. The Nuggets guard should be back and good to go for next season, which will have high expectations as he returns to the floor.

Murray will have to put that Mamba Mentality to use as he works his way back from this torn ACL to get back to the level he was at before the injury, and even beyond. It's clear the Nuggets star still thinks of the Lakers legend frequently, so that inspiration is there.
