Jamal Murray has been one of the Denver Nuggets' driving force this season. Being the perfectionist that he is, however, the 21-year-old is still constantly looking for ways to further improve his game. In this respect, Murray himself admitted that he believes Nuggets head coach Mike Malone ought to be harder on him.

Murray set the premise by describing the different types of coaches he has had throughout his basketball career. This includes his own father as well as Kentucky head coach John Calipari, for whom Murray played for during his single-year tenure in college.

“My dad is my No. 1 critic and the hardest coach I’ve had, and that’s all out of love,” Murray said, via Nick Cosmider of The Athletic. “And coach (John Calipari) is animated, and he’s always going to get into you and all of that.”

Murray went on to say that in his mind, he thinks Malone tends to get a bit soft on him at times, and that he has constantly asked his coach to practically start berating him.

“I always tell (Malone) to be harder on me,” he added. “I can take it. I can listen and go out there and not have a grudge on him. I love when he tells me the things I can do better. I get to go out there and show him I can do it.”

This goes to show that Murray definitely has his ego in check, and understands how important it is for his development if he is able to hear out the criticism thrown at him.

This kid looks to have the right type of attitude, and it does seem like he is going to go places.
