It was clear from the beginning of Game 5 that something was bothering Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray. The Canadian didn't seem to have the same kind of explosion he had through the first four games of the Western Conference Finals.

After Denver's 117-107 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Canadian guard revealed that he was dealing with a bruise on his foot and a bone bruise on his knee as well.

Via ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk:

“I have a big bruise on my foot,” Murray said when asked what was hobbling him. “Just hurt me all game. I changed shoes, and that didn't help. Yeah, I have a bone bruise [as well]. I don't like to tell everybody what I got. I just like to play through it. I was in pain, but it's cool. I was out there. I was struggling a little bit today.”

Despite dealing with these injuries, Murray played through the pain throughout the game. He managed to score 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting in the Nuggets' season ending loss.

Despite a disappointing finish to the season, Murray should be proud of what he accomplished in the playoffs. The 23-year-old broke out into a true star with incredible performances throughout the postseason. He had two 50-point games in the first round against the Utah Jazz and dropped 40 in their series-clinching victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 7 of the West Semis.

All in all, Murray averaged 26.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists in 19 postseason games. He did this while shooting 50.5 percent from the field, 45.3 percent from 3, and 89.7 percent from the foul line — virtually a 50-45-90.

Nuggets star teammate Nikola Jokic praised Murray's improvement and fight:

“I mean, he's amazing,” said center Nikola Jokic, who once again battled foul trouble in Game 5 before finishing with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. “He was our leader. His energy through the whole playoffs. He was banged up. He was injured before, even when I came here [to the bubble late], he was a little bit banged up. … But he's a dog. He's a fighter. He's a competitor. He's an amazing shooter. He played amazing.”

With his breakout playoff run, Murray certainly launched himself into the discussion as one of the best point guards in the NBA.
