Denver Nuggets shooting guard Jamal Murray believes Boston Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving overreacted in his attempt to go for 50 points Monday night at home.

Murray had 48 points and took a 3-pointer with time running out in regulation after dribbling the clock out for a few seconds. Murray's missed shot landed near Irving, who took the ball and threw it into the crowd.

Kyrie Irving was fined $25,000 for chucking the ball. The five-time All-Star told local reporters Tuesday his fine was well deserved, but that he felt disrespected by Jamal Murray.

Irving is standing by his claim that Murray's career-high game-ball deserved to go into the stands.

Jamal Murray responded to Kyrie Irving's comments Wednesday and says the Celtics guard is blowing this out of proportion.

“That’s just makes me laugh,” Murray said, via Mike Singer of The Denver Post. “I think everybody understood I was trying to go for 50. Everybody understood I was trying to break a record, make history. Not just here but Canadian history as well. I think it was more of an understandable shot. I think he’s a competitor, so obviously he’s going to take it a different way. I think he overreacted. But I’m not gonna sit here and go into a little debate. I’m just going to play basketball and we’re on to the next game.”

No matter which team you are rooting for, Jamal Murray was in the wrong here. No one was even guarding him when he took the shot to eclipse the 50-point mark. It's understandable that he wanted to score over 50 points because that's an amazing accomplishment, but to take the shot at the end of the game when the Celtics aren't playing defense is just immature.
