Where’s Juancho?

If you’re wondering why we haven’t seen Denver Nuggets forward Juancho Hernangomez on the floor of late, it’s because he’s still dealing with mononucleosis. It’s the same condition that has kept him sidelined in all but two of the Nuggets' games thus far this season.

According to head coach Mike Malone, Hernangomez is bound to pick up more DNPs going forward as he continues to recover from the illness, per Gina Mizell of The Denver Post.

Malone said the second-year forward was still “another couple weeks” away from returning from the illness.

“I know it’s killing him not to be able to play right now,” Malone said. “But (the doctors) want to be really careful and make sure when he’s cleared to play, he’s good to go.”

Hernangomez was supposed to provide depth in Denver’s frontline, mainly serving as a backup to Wilson Chandler and center Nikola Jokic, but until he returns, Chandler and Mason Plumlee will continue to enjoy increased minutes on the floor through his extended absence.

Hernangomez was drafted 16th overall by the Nuggets last year and has played in 62 games in his rookie season, in which he averaged 13 points and eight rebounds per 36 minutes.
