Following a breakout campaign last season, Michael Porter Jr. was expected to take another leap and establish himself as one of the best players on the Denver Nuggets. Due to his own poor play and a recent back injury that has him sidelined, he has had a very disappointing season so far.

Head coach Michael Malone said that Porter is still out “for the foreseeable future”, per Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports.

“It’s an ongoing thing, trying to figure out what’s going on…I’d still say that Michael’s out for the foreseeable future. We’re trying to take it one day at a time with him and see what the best way to approach getting him back healthy is.”

Porter's skills as a shooter and athletic slasher make him someone who can mesh very well with franchise cornerstone Nikola Jokic. This season, though, Porter hasn't lived up to his expectations. In nine games this season, he has only averaged 9.9 points on 35.9 percent shooting from the field and 20.8 percent from beyond the arc. Last season, he averaged 19.0 points on 54.2 percent field-goal shooting and 44.5 percent three-point shooting.

Although Denver has done well without Porter, getting him to be healthy again and back to his form from last season will be huge in raising their chances at competing for a title. With Jamal Murray also slated to come back at some point, the Nuggets have some firepower waiting for them.

When Porter gets back, though, it'll be almost as important to get his game going again as it is to make sure he's healthy again.
