The Denver Nuggets absorbed a painful loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 7 of their 2019 Western Conference semis series. But despite seeing their season come to a close, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone remains proud of what they accomplished this season.

The Trail Blazers escaped with a 100-96 victory over the Nuggets on Sunday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Following the game, Malone said that the loss in Game 7 is not enough to take away from the “magical season” that they had this year.

Denver has one of the youngest roster in the league this season, but they surprised a lot of fans and analysts with their performance this season. They spent the majority of the regular season on top of the Western Conference standings before the Golden State Warriors claimed the best record in the conference late in the season.

There were doubts about their ability to go deep into the playoffs, especially after they were paired against the San Antonio Spurs in the opening round. The Spurs won the series opener, but the Nuggets eventually advanced to the second round after winning a pulsating Game 7 against the Spurs.

Against the Trail Blazers, they managed to take a 3-2 series lead, but they ran out of steam in the last two games. Portland unleashed a big rally down the stretch with superstar guard CJ McCollum leading the way for his team, finishing with 37 points, including big baskets down the stretch.
