The Denver Nuggets enjoyed a solid 100-86 triumph over the Charlotte Hornets, but the ankle injury Jamal Murray suffered was enough to dampen their spirits.

In fact, upon looking at the injury, Nuggets head coach Mike Malone expressed his concern about the severity of the issue.

While Malone is relieved that the X-rays came back negative and didn't show anything out of the ordinary, he couldn't help but feel concerned for the 22-year-old guard as he still has no idea about the extent of the injury he suffered.

“I think the X-rays are negative,” Malone said, per TJ McBride of Mile High Sports. “I do not know how long he is going to be out. Obviously he has had an issue with ankle injuries. I just looked at it and it is rather large which is kind of scary. He rolled it and those are scary because those injures — aside from being painful — you don't want to have Jamal Murray miss [an] extended period of time. Hopefully, it is not as bad as it looks and we can get him back.”

The Kentucky product's absence will be felt since he orchestrates the offense alongside Nikola Jokic. He's having a great season so far, averaging 17.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals every game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from deep and 91.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Without him, opposing defenses can simply swarm Jokic and stop him from completing a pass.

Fortunately, it's very likely that the Nuggets will be able to get Jamal Murray sooner rather than later. Since nothing came up on the X-rays, it is possible that he only sustained an ankle sprain. However, it is not wrong to expect Denver to exercise caution given that Murray is an important piece in their title aspirations.
