The Denver Nuggets won't be playing on Christmas this 2021-22, which means Nikola Jokic is the first reigning MVP not to play on December 25 since the league went to five holiday games in 2008. Sure enough, it didn't sit well with Denver and his teammate Austin Rivers.

After the NBA officially announced its Christmas schedule, Rivers commented on the league's Instagram post to express his dismay over the clear disrespect.

“The mvp doesn’t get a Christmas game. Yup that makes a lot of sense,” the Nuggets guard wrote, per Larry Brown Sports.

Teams like the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz are all scheduled to play on Christmas.

Denver had a Christmas game in the past season, but despite their fifth-best record in 2020-21 and the fact that Nikola Jokic won MVP, those efforts were not enough to warrant a special place in the schedule.

While some might argue that the Nuggets didn't have the star appeal like the other teams chosen for Christmas 2021, it's hard not to argue that the league did Jokic dirty. After all, how can the Most Valuable Player in the league not be featured in one of the most important and highly anticipated game days of the campaign?

Jokic is unlikely to make a big deal out of it, but it could very well serve as fuel to another MVP-caliber season from the Serbian.
