Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is the best basketball player from Serbia right now, and that is made official when the Basketball Federation of Serbia hailed him as the country's player of the year for 2018.

According to Antonis Stroggylakis of Eurohoops.net, Nikola Jokic got 25 votes from the media representatives that participated in the process. Sacramento Kings star Bogdan Bogdanovic, who won the award in 2017, finished second this time with only three votes.

Jokic is putting together an MVP-caliber season for the Nuggets, so the award didn't really come as a surprise.

The 23-year-old big man is averaging 19.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game this campaign, establishing himself as one of the best passing centers in the league. He has also been efficient for the Nuggets, as he is shooting 50.0 percent overall, 31.4 percent from 3-point territory and 84.0 percent from the charity stripe.

Jokic continues to amaze for the Nuggets as well, and his play didn't regress this 2019. In fact, the Joker got his 21st career-triple double in Denver's 121-100 blowout of the LA Clippers on Thursday. He finished with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in the game.

The Nuggets are the no.1 team in the Western Conference, boasting a 28-12 record. If Jokic can keep his production and lead Denver to a playoff appearance for the first time since the 2012-2013 season, it's likely that he would win the Serbian award again next year.
