Nikola…yoked? Joked?

The weight room may not be the first thing you associate with Denver Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic, but maybe you should.

Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. spoke on Jokic's leadership qualities, and shared how the Serbian star sets an example, both on the court and in the weight room.

“I really respect Nikola just in how he handles himself off the court,” Porter Jr. said, per Joel Rush of Forbes. “No matter if he plays good or bad, he’s always in the weight room after the game, he’s always making sure he gets his recovery in before he leaves the arena, he always makes sure he gets his sleep in, just so that he’s ready to go the next day.”

Porter Jr. said that because of his faith in how Jokic's keeps his body ready to go, the Nuggets don't need to worry about him showing up in All-Star form each night.

“And we can always count on him to be consistent. We know we’re not gonna have to wonder if he’s gonna play certain games due to load or whatever. We know he’s ready to go every day. So I respect that,” Porter Jr. said. “And I would say the best attribute about a player is availability. And he is a guy that’s always available, you know what you’re gonna get… We know what he’s gonna bring, and he’s learning how to lead by example.”

After missing his rookie season in 2018-19, the 22-year-old Porter Jr. emerged in the bubble seeding games to provide a versatile offensive punch to the Western Conference finalists.

Coming off one of the shortest offseasons of any team in basketball, the Nuggets tip-off their 2020-21 regular season on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings.
