The Denver Nuggets will be without power forward Paul Millsap indefinitely after the 11-year veteran is slated to undergo surgery in his left wrist, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

The All-Star forward missed Monday's game against the Sacramento Kings with the injury, despite his X-rays revealing no fracture in the initial results. Millsap was forced out of the first and second quarters against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday with the wrist injury — one for which he later had to return to Denver for further examination.

Millsap was starting to get in a groove with his new team, averaging 15.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game through 16 games in this young season. In his absence, head coach Mike Malone could opt to play a smaller lineup with Will Barton starting at small forward and Wilson Chandler in Millsap's usual four-spot, or opt to make a simple swap for Kenneth Faried, keeping Chandler at the three-spot with Barton coming off the bench.

Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray will have increased offensive tasks, now forced to carry the bulk of scoring with another option off the rotation for the foreseeable future.

The Nuggets are 10-7 after picking up a win against the Kings on Monday, but will face a testy stretch facing the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, followed by the Memphis Grizzlies and the Utah Jazz on the road.
