With Danilo Gallinari moving on to the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason, Wilson Chandler is set to take over as the team’s undisputed starting small forward this year.

Chandler talked to Altitude Sports’ Chris Dempsey about the process of adjusting to the role thus far. Chandler admits there are challenges in terms of getting a feel for playing with his fellow frontcourt mates but is optimistic the team will reach their desired level of understanding eventually.

Chandler did make 33 starts in 71 games played last season, averaging 15.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, both of which were new career highs. He was a significant contributor in the Nuggets' highly efficient offense thanks to his versatility.

However, he might have to take more of a backseat to both Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap this year and learn to be more of a supporting player for the two more established stars.

Having said that, Chandler could actually be one of the key players for the Nuggets this season. He’s the lone player on the roster who can be classified as a true small forward, which makes him close to indispensable. He’ll also be asked to take on a bigger role defensively and guard opposing teams’ best perimeter players.

Chandler's ability to mesh with Jokic and Millsap, as well as his ability to do a competent job on the defensive end, will be big factors that'll impact the Nuggets' level of success this season.
