The Denver Nuggets and WNBA star Sue Bird have had discussions about potentially hiring Bird to work as an intern for the franchise, according to T.J. McBride of Mile High Sports.

Bird was at the Nuggets' practice on Friday. If Bird does eventually get hired as an intern with Denver, she would be more involved in the front office, per McBride's report. Bird is not eligible to take a full-time paid position with the Nuggets because she still plays for the Seattle Storm.

Sue Bird and the Storm won the WNBA championship in 2018. The 38-year-old is one of the most respected basketball players currently. She has a wealth of knowledge at her disposal. Bird would be an asset to the Nuggets if Denver hired her. Conversations between Bird and the Nuggets have been taking place for almost two months.

Former WNBA star Becky Hammon became the first female assistant coach in NBA history with the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA and WNBA are a close knit group. They have become more intertwined over the past few seasons, with former WNBA star Kristi Toliver also joining the coaching ranks as an assistant with the Washington Wizards.

Bird joining the Nuggets would be just the next step in the evolution of women basketball players and their connection to the male sport.
