The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season. After years of struggling, the franchise has been one of the league's top teams this year. Following their big win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16, the 49ers are now 12-3 at the time of this writing.

Even though they are gearing up for a playoff run, it is never too early for the front office to be considering what they want to do in the offseason. John Lynch and the 49ers' front office have done an amazing job of drafting and growing talent and they will need to continue doing so. In the 2020 NFL Draft, there are quite a few players that could fit in with San Francisco, but one guy in particular could make a lot of sense.

Ohio State linebacker Malik Harrison is currently being projected to be a late first-round or early second-round pick in the NFL Draft this year. The 49ers have prided themselves on their defense, but they could use a bit more talent at the linebacker position. Harrison could be an ideal fit for the 49ers.

Standing in at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, Harrison brings an excellent combination of size and athleticism. He does have some issues in pass coverage, but he is well-known for his ability to tackle at a high level.

During the 2019 season with the Buckeyes, Harrison has racked up 69 total tackles to go along with 4.5 sacks and four defended passes. He has been a key part of the middle of the Ohio State defense. If the 49ers were to draft him, he would have a chance to get some reps early in his career, but he would have the ability to develop at his own pace.

No team can ever have too much depth at the linebacker position. San Francisco has had some great linebackers over the years, but have also had some tough luck with the early retirement of Chris Borland. Harrison may not be as talented as Borland was, but he could end up becoming a major impact player if he reaches his full development.

While he may not be receiving a ton of hype at this point ahead of the NFL Draft, Harrison is going to be a quality NFL linebacker. Lynch has done an excellent job of drafting hard-nosed players who bring everything they have to the field. Harrison has played all four years at Ohio State and has a ton of experience.

It's early, but the 49ers should already be taking a long look at Harrison. Assuming he is available in the late first round, Harrison could end up being an ideal target for San Francisco.
