The Baltimore Orioles are promoting top prospect Adley Rutschman to the big leagues. There was much speculation that Rutschman was going to make the big league club out of Spring Training this season. However, he suffered an injury and was forced to miss time on the IL. After rejoining the Orioles minor league team, he has clearly proven that he is ready for the next step.

Rutschman was the first overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft. He was selected by the Orioles over fellow top prospect, Bobby Witt Jr. Many scouts referred to Rutschman the next Buster Posey. That is undoubtedly a high billing to live up to, but Rutschman's talent is for real.

Adley Rutschman is a 24-year old catcher. MLB has seen a lack of exciting young catchers in recent years so his presence is refreshing. A lack of offense from the catcher position has become the new normal around the league. Catchers often tend to hit near the bottom of the lineup and are primarily defensive-first options. There are a few exceptions of course, but most catchers in today's game struggle at the plate.

But Rutschman projects to be an offensive star. He could become a middle of the order hitter along with strong defensive skills behind the plate.

He joins other exciting top prospects such as Witt Jr and Julio Rodriguez in the big leagues. Both Witt Jr and Rodriguez made their MLB debuts immediately out of Spring Training. Although Rutschman is a little late to the party, his ceiling is every bit as high.

Adley Rutschman will aim to turn the Orioles organization around as the looming face of the franchise. He is set to join the big league club ahead of their home matchup against the Rays on Saturday.
