Baltimore Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini drew roars from the crowd at Camden Yards on Thursday afternoon after missing the entirety of the 2020 season due to colon cancer.

Mancini got a standing ovation when he was first introduced to the O's faithful. He got another standing ovation when he stepped into the batter's box for the first time.

Attendance might have been at a limited capacity. But the Orioles fans filled the stadium with noise in support of their star outfielder.

Mancini was one of the budding players in the Orioles organization heading into the 2020 season. But he was met with a scary prognosis when he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer last April.

The 29-year-old immediately underwent surgery and began chemotherapy treatment. He finished treatment in September, with the whole Orioles organization offering congratulations and additional support.

Mancini spoke about some of the nerves he felt when he made his official return for the Orioles last week against the Boston Red Sox. He was greeted at home plate by Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez, and Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts embraced Mancini:

“It reminded me a lot of my MLB debut in terms of how the day went,” Mancini said, via Joe Trezza of MLB.com. “There are a lot of nerves and emotions that go along with the day, then once the game started, it all kind of went away.”

The above ovations from the Baltimore crowd must have felt every bit as special for Mancini, who through hard work and determination is healthy and back in the middle of the Orioles lineup.
