The great Oscar De La Hoya stole the show in a recent press conference for the highly-anticipated Jake Paul vs Ben Askren exhibition bout slated for April 17. During the press briefing, De La Hoya announced that he has decided to come out of retirement to make a sensational return to action in the ring.

De La Hoya, who has found a ton of success as the founder of the highly-popular boxing and MMA promotions firm Golden Boy Promotions, also had his hand in promoting the Paul-Askren bout. On Friday, De La Hoya made the announcement that he was going to make a boxing comeback after more than a decade since his retirement (h/t TMZ Sports).

It's been quite some time since De La Hoya saw some ring action. As a matter of fact, it's been 13 long years. The last time he fought was back in 2008 when he was handily defeated by Manny Pacquiao. It was clear at that point that De La Hoya's career had come to an end, and he wisely hung up his gloves not long after the Pacquiao fight.

However, De La Hoya has been saying for months now that he's set to return to the ring. Nothing was official, though, until he finally confirmed it on Thursday. The former 11-time world champion said that he will return to the ring on July 3rd against a still-unnamed opponent.

Last year, two boxing legends in Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. made their boxing comebacks. Clearly, De La Hoya has drawn inspiration from the two former champs.
