Epic Games Store, the digital storefront of Fortnite's developers, somehow managed to swing a big Star Wars promotion. EGS gained fame among gamers by offering free games on a regular basis. Star Wars Battlefront 2 eventually found its way to the storefront where it was offered free of charge for a limited time. EA lost exclusivity rights regarding Star Wars games but doesn't seem to have negatively affected them so far. Over 19 million people acquired Battlefront 2 for free during the special EGS promotional event.

A good disturbance

Battlefront 2 developer EA shared the exciting news in a Tweet filled with unending gratitude towards new players. EA emphasized their appreciation for players and fans. Coincidentally, the free game promotion on the EGS platform followed the last content drop for the video game. Undoubtedly, fans flocking to the game signify a huge demand to at least try out the Star Wars shooter. Of course, it goes without saying that this massive achievement was fueled by the fact that they literally gave away the game for free.

Epic Games deserves at least some credit for somehow facilitating the deal with EA. It's rare for developers to willingly hand out their games, especially those that are still on sale.

Battlefront 2 made headlines following its initial launch because of dubious microtransaction practices from EA. However, it seems that the gaming public in general is in a forgiving mood. The 19 million-plus new players may indicate that players are willing to overlook some shady practices if the cost is low. In this case, the cost is absolutely nothing. Regardless of EA's attitude and Battlefront 2's initial whirlwind of bad press, the game now enjoys a massive influx of new players.
