Davon Reed may not be a name most NBA fans are aware of, but the former Miami Hurricanes star guard plans to sign a two-way deal with the Indiana Pacers, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Reed was drafted with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. He ended up playing in 21 regular-season games with the Suns last season. Assuming he clears waivers, Reed will join one of the top up-and-coming teams in the NBA that specializes in developing young talent.

During the 2017-18 season with the Suns, Reed ended up averaging 3.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.6 assists. He shot just 28.9 percent from the field overall and knocked down 28.9 percent of his 3-point attempts as well.

Standing in at 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, there is no denying the athletic potential Reed possesses. If he can develop into his full potential, he could become a very valuable role player in the future.

Back in 2016-17 with the Hurricanes, Reed ended up averaging 14.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. He shot 47.4 percent from the floor and 39.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Indiana has always liked picking up young players who are discarded from other teams to see what kind of potential they can get out of them. Reed may never end up working his way up to the Pacers' active roster, but the move is well worth it for Indiana.

Expect to see Reed clear waivers later Thursday and sign a two-way contract with the Pacers. This could be exactly the move he needed to get his career on track.
