The Indiana Pacers are likely to start negotiations on a contract extension with head coach Nate McMillan, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski (h/t Sagar Trika of Blazers Edge).

McMillan has been every bit the Coach of the Year for a team that wasn't even expected to reach the postseason after trading away its best player in Paul George.

The Pacers overachieved, putting themselves in playoff contention from the onset, making use of their trade chips in now-All-Star Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis, taking the Cleveland Cavaliers to a grueling seven-game affair in the first round of the playoffs.

McMillan led this roster to 48 wins, six more than they had in 2016-17 with George in the roster.

The former NBA player-turned-coach has started his stint with the Pacers with a 90-74 record, enough reason to warrant this front office to keep him for the long haul, having developed a great understanding with this young roster.

Nate McMillan replaced Frank Vogel as the head coach in 2016 and has done an impeccable job with this group of players, now setting his eyes on getting past the conference semifinals for the first time in his 14-year coaching career.

If everything gets done with the deal, it adds some needed consistency within the franchise.
