The Indiana Pacers will be missing the services of their All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis in Orlando. It's going to be tough for the team to be without their front court leader, but the Indiana backcourt headed by Malcolm Brogdon and Victor Oladipo is more than ready to step up.

For his part, Brogdon emphasized he's up for the challenge.

“There’s going to be less play calls. Less inside-out ball,” Malcolm Brogdon said after Monday’s practice (per indystar.com). “We’re going to be predicated on the guards making plays. Myles is going to be the inside-out threat but its guards making plays, getting penetration and then we’ll get shots form there.”

For what it's worth, Brogdon and Oladipo have proven that they have enough to lead the Pacers back court. Brogdon scored 17 points in their last scrimmage win against the Dallas Mavericks, while Oladipo tallied 18 while shooting 4-of-8 from the 3-point line.

“What’s been made clear is that I’ll be the point guard on the floor. A lot of the time I’ll initiate,” Brogdon added. “Guys like Victor, guys like Aaron, T.J. (McConnell), they are going to be allowed to initiate as well. Bring the ball up the court, start the offense. So many ballhandlers on the floor, it’s going to be super beneficial for us.”

Majority of the Pacers' offense this season has been going through Sabonis. Aside from leading the team both in scoring and rebounds, Sabonis also facilitated a lot as he averaged 5.0 assists per game.

With Sabonis out, Myles Turner will be the only formidable big guy in the roster, so head coach Nate McMillan has no choice but to go small ball and rely on his guards.

The Pacers have one more scrimmage against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday before resuming their season against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Currently, Indiana is at the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.
