Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to J Michael of The Indianapolis Star Tribune. NBA teams conducted roster-wide tests on Tuesday.

“I recently tested positive for the COVID virus and am currently in quarantine,” said Brogdon in a statement. “I'm doing well, feeling well and progressing well. I plan to join my teammates in Orlando for the resumption of the NBA season and playoffs.”

Brogdon is the latest of many known cases amid preparations for the restart. Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic tested positive and will remain in his homeland of Serbia until he tests negative for the virus.

Besides the aforementioned, four players on a Western Conference playoff team tested positive, as did two players on the Phoenix Suns.

It seems this second wave has spread like wildfire after many states have opened their initial phases, allowing for more contact and a quicker spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The Pacers are fifth in the Eastern Conference, boasting a mere tiebreaker with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are in sixth place.

Indiana could try to inch closer to the fourth spot during the eight remaining regular-season games before the start of the playoffs. Doing so without Brogdon could be a tough task at hand.

Brogdon will have to quarantine for a period of time before rejoining the team ahead of traveling to Orlando and resuming Training Camp 2.0.

The NBA is expecting more positive cases to arise in the coming days, but the league took on the restart project knowing this was a likely issue they must deal with.

The quarantine protocol in place as well as other regulations are expected to allow for the season to resume, but teams will have their share of challenges trying to keep their players healthy and coronavirus-free.
