Indiana Pacers head coach Nate McMillan is finalizing an extension with the team, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. McMillan had one guaranteed year left in his contract, but has earned an extension with the organization after leading the Pacers to a 48-win season, earning the fifth seed and taking the eventual Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers to seven games in last year's playoffs.

McMillan has managed to survive what could have been a roster overhaul after the loss of Paul George, making the most of the return pieces from the trade, helping Victor Oladipo become an All-Star for the first time and yielding the most out of Domantas Sabonis on a hybrid forward/center role.

The Pacers managed to survive a brutal end-of-the-season schedule and claw their way to the fifth spot in a very narrow middle of the Eastern Conference.

Oladipo, who managed to earn Most Improved Player honors this season, has developed a unique rapport with his coach, which also played a part in his imminent contract extension.

McMillan has a record of 90-74 with the Pacers, but will need to prove he can get past the first round for the first time since coaching the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics in 2004-05, when he lost in the Western Conference Semifinals.
