The Indiana Pacers and head coach Nate McMillan have reportedly agreed to a contract extension, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. This comes amidst recent rumors that the 56-year is on the hot seat despite leading an overachieving Pacers squad back to the postseason.

Nate McMillan is in the final year of his current deal. The details of his extension such as the amount and the contract length have not been disclosed.

McMillan is one of the most well-respected mentors in the NBA. Likewise, he has done a considerably marvelous job as coach of the Pacers, considering everything that he has dealt with throughout his tenure. McMillan needed to build the Pacers from the ground up after trading away disgruntled franchise star Paul George in 2017.

Despite the seemingly seismic shift of trading away their best player, McMillan has managed to keep Indiana afloat. They continue to remain competitive under McMillan's watch. He has led Indiana to the playoffs in each of his four seasons with them so far.

Thus, it was certainly a surprise to see McMillan's name pop up on the rumor mill all season long, as TV analyst and former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy discussed with ESPN's Zach Lowe on “The Lowe Post” podcast.

The Pacers are currently at no. 5 in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. They hold a one-game lead over the 6th seed Philadelphia 76ers and are one game behind the no. 4 Miami Heat. Two games remain on their bubble schedule. They go up against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday and close their regular season versus the Heat on Friday.
