Indiana Pacers shooting guard Wesley Matthews makes his return to the American Airlines Center on Wednesday to take on the Dallas Mavericks, and while the swingman doesn't hold a grudge against the Mavs for trading him, he is still looking for blood.
The Mavs traded Matthews, DeAndre Jordan and Dennis Smith Jr. to the New York Knicks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade. The Knicks and Matthews were able to agree on a buyout agreement and the 32-year-old signed with the Pacers a few days later.
“They got to do what they got to do, but I’m still going to try to kill ‘em,” Matthews told Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com. “I’m going to try to take all their heads off.”
“And if that ball bounces too close to Rick (Carlisle), I’ll go for that, too. Same with (Mark) Cuban, if that ball bounces too close to the sideline and I can save it, he better have his hands ready.”
Wesley Matthews played in 258 games with the Mavs. He signed a four-year, $70 million free agent deal with them in the summer of 2015. The veteran forward averaged 13.1 points per game with Dallas this season and was a fan favorite because of how hard he played every single night.
Matthews has appeared in five games with Indiana, putting up 13.6 points. The Pacers are 40-21 on the season.
