Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones had himself a night against the Detroit Lions on Monday. After dropping their first assignment, Jones made sure they won't stare at a 0-2 hole in their first two weeks.
Jones caught three of Aaron Rodgers' four touchdown passes and then rushed for another one to lead the Packers to a convincing 35-17 home win over the Lions.
The victory, however, was bittersweet for Jones. During one of his touchdown celebrations, he lost his necklace with a little football containing some of the ashes of his late father. But while he was sad about it, Jones said his dad probably wouldn't mind (via ESPN)
“I think the grounds crew is about to go out there and look right now. But if there was any place to lose it, that's where my dad would've wanted me to lose it, so I know he's smiling.”
Jones' father, who passed away last April due to complications from COVID-19.
The 26-year-old Packers star acknowledged that they battled hard despite all the controversies surrounding the team recently. Jones said he's taken inspiration from his old man, who groomed him and his twin brother, Alvin Jones, who used to play for the Baltimore Ravens.
“My dad's always taught me as a man, it's how you respond to adversity, how you respond is what makes a man really. I think we came out and did a great job of responding. We played well. We played at a high level.”
The Packers will next face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and hopefully, by that time, Aaron Jones has gotten his necklace back.
