Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the 2019 NFL season on Sunday in his team's Week 17 regular-season finale with the Detroit Lions.

A four-yard carry by the 25-year-old Jones put the third-year rusher at 1,004 yards on the ground, per The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.

The 5-foot-9 Jones entered the league with the Packers as a fifth-round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft out of the University of Texas-El Paso. However, with rookie head coach Matt LaFleur on board, Jones' potential in the running game has seemingly been unlocked. Entering the final game of the regular season, Jones had recorded 984 rushing yards on 211 carries for a league-leading 16 touchdowns. Additionally, Jones had caught 47 receptions for 431 yards and three touchdowns, making him a true, dual-threat running back to help veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a receiving target.

Jones only amassed 728 rushing yards in his sophomore season during the 2018 campaign with Green Bay and just over 1,100 yards and 12 scores through his first two season's before the Packers' splendid resurgence during this year.

With a win today, the Packers can clinch a first-round bye in the upcoming postseason. They'll need a San Francisco 49ers loss to the Seattle Seahawks to earn home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

Jones' revitalized performance in 2019 has been crucial to the success for Rodgers and the Pack's offense, further highlighting LaFleur's job-well-done in his initial season with the team. LaFleur owns the franchise record for most wins by a first-year head coach.
