The relationship between Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers, it's safe to say, had run its course when the Green Bay Packers finally made the decision to cut ties with their longtime coach last season. One of Rodgers' teammates, though, never saw anything to suggest reports of tension between McCarthy and Green Bay's superstar signal-caller.

During a Friday appearance on “NFL Total Access,” Packers running back Aaron Jones insisted he was never privy to any friction surrounding McCarthy and Rodgers last season or before.

“I never seen anything myself, so I'm wondering where those reports are coming from and I'd like to see that as well,” he said, per Grant Gordon of NFL.com. “I never once seen that; Aaron's a great leader, great role model and a great guy, great teammate.”

Jones has been a teammate of Rodgers for the past two seasons after being drafted with a fifth-round pick in 2017.

McCarthy, the only coach Rodgers has ever played for in his 11-year career, was fired in early December following an embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Though he led the Packers to a title in 2010 and made the playoffs every season from 2009 to 2016, McCarthy’s welcome was worn out in Green Bay after his failure to evolve offensively prevented the team from reaching the postseason each of the past two years.

Green Bay hired Matt LaFleur to replace him on January 8. He spent the 2018 season as offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, but first rose to prominence as the quarterbacks coach of the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons, where he received widespread credit for the development of Jared Goff and Matt Ryan's MVP season.
