The Green Bay Packers seemingly made a long-term decision when they took quarterback Jordan Love as Aaron Rodgers' successor in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, running back Aaron Jones is still wondering how he fits into the team's future plans

Jones is entering the final year of his rookie deal in the 2020 NFL season. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, he would love nothing more than to stay in Green Bay for his career:

“I would love to be a lifelong Packer.”

Jones was finally able to enjoy a breakout year in 2019 by rushing for 1,084 yards and 16 touchdowns while tacking on 49 receptions for 474 yards and three touchdowns.

His emergence helped take some of the pressure of Rodgers when it came to serving as the focal point of the offense. This was just the kind of balance that head coach Matt LaFleur was trying to establish in his first year in charge.

Of course, it remains to be seen just how willing the Packers are when it comes to investing big money at the running back position. Such expenses are often seen as taboo by many teams with the exception of a few cases such as Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. Regardless, it is safe to say that Jones will be using their lucrative contracts as the benchmark for his new deal.

Meanwhile, Green Bay has already made efforts to secure a contingency plan in the backfield by taking A.J. Dillon in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Although Jones has since relayed that he is not disappointed by their choice, it will be interesting to see if it has any impact on the team's future at running back.
