The Green Bay Packers gave quarterback Aaron Rodgers a big receiving weapon with the addition of tight end Jimmy Graham in free agency. The five-time Pro Bowler is expected to emerge as one of Rodgers’ top receiving options this season, particularly in the red zone.

Graham and Rodgers are still trying to build some chemistry during camp, and one particular play on Monday showed the potential that combination has. Rodgers threw a nice fade pass to Graham, who proceeded to haul it in with a leaping one-handed grab.

“We needed something like that, because we've been talking a lot about how he wants those type of fade balls thrown,” Rodgers said, via the team's website. “It was nice to be on the same page.”

As Rodgers showed with his recent outburst, he has high standards when it comes to his receivers. But while the young Packers wideouts still need to show they’re capable of that level of play, Graham is a proven veteran who should be able to earn his trust in due time.

Graham’s addition is a big reason for optimism about the Packers this season. Tony Romo, who’s tipped Green Bay to make it back to the Super Bowl, has singled out Graham and his positive effect on Rodgers.

Graham spent the last three years having good but ultimately not great seasons with the Seahawks. It remains to be seen if that was a product of the Seahawks’ system or his advancing age. But if the 31-year-old can forge a strong connection with Rodgers and come close to his peak with the Saints, the Packers will be a force to be reckoned with.
