The Green Bay Packers made a rather surprising move earlier this offseason, hiring the inexperienced Matt LaFleur as their new head coach.

LaFleur served under Sean McVay for one season with the Los Angeles Rams back in 2017, so, obviously, the Packers are hoping that LaFleur can emulate McVay's success.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told Jason Wilde and Mark Tauscher of ESPN that he is excited to work with LaFleur this coming season:

“I think its going to be a fun process,” said Rodgers. “He's a super energetic guy. A real straight-shooter and honest guy … I am excited about working with him.”

It remains to be seen how the relationship between Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur unfolds.

Rodgers had a very shaky relationship with former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy, who was fired late this past season after 12 and a half years with the club, largely as a result of his power struggle with Rodgers.

The 35-year-old signal-caller has come under harsh criticism this offseason for his leadership abilities, and a recent scathing piece by Bleacher Report's Tyler Dunne did not exactly paint Rodgers in a positive light.

The Packers are coming off a very disappointing 2018 campaign in which they went 6-9-1, marking the first time since 2006 that the franchise missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. In 2017, Green Bay won just seven games, largely due to the fact that Rodgers missed most of the year with a broken collarbone.

As for LaFleur, he spent this past season as the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. He is just 39 years old.
