Aaron Rodgers' future with the Green Bay Packers has been a major talking point for weeks now, and while a reunion is still possible for both sides, a former team exec is not counting on it.

In his latest opinion on Sports Illustrated, former Packers vice president Andrew Brandt shared his belief on why Rodgers and the Green Bay franchise are heading their separate ways. He clarified that he has no inside information whatsoever, but based on his analysis and view of the situation, both sides could be of the belief that it's time for a change.

“My sense of what happened last year is that Aaron, both as the reigning MVP and a placeholder for Jordan Love, rightfully wanted some clarity,” Brandt wrote. “If the Packers were moving to Love in 2022—something I have always felt would happen—Aaron may have wanted to just get on with it rather than wait a year. The Packers, of course, wanted their cake and to eat it too; they wanted Aaron to continue his MVP play while Love apprenticed another year. And they got that. Aaron returned with another MVP season to boot and seemed happy with the team and the front office, and vice versa.”

Andrew Brandt further emphasized his belief that the decision to part ways will be mutual this time around, allowing the Packers to enter a full rebuild–which Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to be a part of–and the veteran QB getting to a place where he can compete in the late stage of his career.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, though it won't be surprising if Rodgers and Green Bay really move on from each other given the lack of playoff success in recent years.

For insight on the 2022 QB carousel, including what could happen with Aaron Rodgers and why there's still plenty of hope for him to stay in Green Bay, listen below:

It is certainly interesting to hear Brandt's comments about the situation as well, especially since he had a hand in drafting Rodgers to the team back in 2005. He is very familiar with the situation, considering the fact that they took him despite having Brett Favre as their quarterback.

Indeed, what's happening with Rodgers is inevitable since the Packers have been grooming Jordan Love to be his replacement. With that said, it shouldn't be surprising if it happens by the 2022 season.

For what it's worth, Rodgers has been linked in several trade rumors amid his silence on his future with Green Bay. In fact, there were talks he could be heading to the Tennessee Titans because of a property he recently purchased there.

If he indeed ends up leaving Green Bay, at least Rodgers ends his stint on a rather good note.
